UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland

Description
UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland celebrated its 100th birthday in 2012. As the oldest pediatric medical center between Los Angeles and Seattle, its physicians and staff have consistently provided exceptional medical care for children in Northern California and beyond. It has expanded its role over the years from a medical “safety net” for East Bay children into a regional pediatric medical center with specialized staff and facilities able to treat rare illnesses and health problems.
The multidisciplinary Neuro-Oncology Team at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland exemplifies the commitment to quality and care seen throughout the institution. The team is here to help and bring hope and support to every patient diagnosed with a nervous system tumor as well as those who care for and about them. A unique collaboration between nine Children's Hospital departments allows our multidisciplinary team to give children the best comprehensive care possible. The hospital is an active member of the Head Start Consortium, a group of pediatric institutions throughout the world with a special interest in avoiding the adverse effects of radiation therapy in young children with malignant brain tumors by substituting aggressive chemotherapy in its place. In addition to our clinical program, an active research program is being developed at the Children’s Hospital Oakland Research Institute (CHORI).
